Data are not going to go away, but I am happy if we can declare the buzzword ‘big data’ dead. I believe it is time to move past ‘3Vs’ and other banal ways to describe data, and to develop a sort of ‘material science’ of the digital domain; i.e. how do data come to be, what are the digital features of data as economic resource, and how do data become entangled with human practices.
